Venue-controlled systems
The wall, standardized holds, automatic timing, start/finish interfaces and automatic belay are venue or event systems. At World Climbing level, these are governed through recognized manufacturers, suppliers and technical requirements.
Why venue equipment matters to records
An athlete can bring the same shoes to two facilities, but official record comparability depends heavily on the venue system. Wall geometry, hold placement and timing must satisfy governing requirements.
Why safety responsibility is different
Athletes must perform personal checks and follow procedures, but they do not self-certify an auto belay or competition wall. Installation, maintenance and technical approval belong to manufacturers, trained facilities, organizers and governing processes.
A better way to think about purchases
An individual athlete usually needs to choose personal equipment, not recreate a competition venue. Clubs and facilities face a different decision involving recognized systems, installation, maintenance, certification and budget.
