The standardized hold set
The familiar route uses large handholds and smaller footholds at prescribed coordinates. Athletes may choose different contacts, but the physical route must reproduce the standardized problem.

World Climbing currently lists Volx, Climb Korea, Euroholds and Geckoking as recognized Speed hold producers. It separately states that Volx is the Speed Holds Sole Supplier for World Climbing competitions.

Wear, cleaning and friction
Even standardized holds experience chalk and surface-condition changes. Cleaning and maintenance should follow venue, manufacturer and event procedures rather than improvised methods that could alter or damage the surface.
