Reproduce the important constraints

Use realistic start procedures, lane setup, rest windows and limited attempts where possible. The goal is not theatrical pressure; it is exposing the athlete to decisions and sensations that differ from unlimited training.

Practice with another climber

A neighboring athlete changes visual and auditory information. Learn to keep attention on the planned sequence instead of reacting to whether the other climber appears ahead.

Simulate advancement

Short mock brackets teach athletes to reset after a run and perform again when the previous result has consequences. Vary opponents and seeding rather than always matching the same training partner.

Practice the response to imperfection

Competition runs are not always technically perfect. Athletes need experience continuing after a small timing error without mentally abandoning the race.

Do not create fatigue to prove fitness

Near competition, simulation should build confidence and specificity without exhausting the athlete. The exact taper depends on training history and should be individualized.
