Route time and splits
Valid full-route time is the most sport-specific outcome. Section splits add diagnostic value by showing where time changes occur. Keep timing setup and route conditions as consistent as practical.
Jump testing
Research in elite male Speed climbers has found strong associations between countermovement-jump variables and climbing performance. That makes jump testing promising, but small samples mean it should not be treated as a universal talent cutoff.
Strength and power tests
Climbing-specific strength and power tests can track development when protocols are standardized. General climbing reviews support several functional measures, but evidence specific to elite Speed remains limited.
Repeatability
Track how often an athlete can reproduce a target time or complete a planned sequence without a major error. Competition performance requires reliability, not only one exceptional training run.
Avoid fake normative tables
A benchmark should come from a defined population and reliable protocol. SpeedClimbing.com does not label arbitrary internet numbers as beginner, elite or Olympic standards when the evidence does not support those categories.
